I began sailing as a teenager. My family went to a family camp in Michigan for about five
years in a row. The camp had a fleet of sailboats consisting of 16' Rebels and 12'
Butterflies. Over time my Dad ended up buying two
Butterfly sailboats .
After we had our own boats to learn to refine our skills, we would usually win the camp
regattas. We also entered one-class Butterfly regattas that were held at the regional and
national levels. Those competitions proved to be humbling, but were still quite fun.
My Dad now usually sails his boats at Hurshtown Reservoir, near Leo, Indiana. Usually
one of more of his children and grandchildren join him.
